If you are just learning to make reeds, or are a busy oboe teacher who doesn’t have time for the cane selection, gouging, shaping, and tying - good news! I am now offering reed blanks for sale. These are tied in the same manner as my finished student oboe reeds.
These are not scraped. They will not work in your oboe unless you scrape on them. These are not finished reeds. This listing is for one oboe reed blank.
I use the following materials:
Cane gouged with a Kunibert Michel gouging machine.
Shape is a Pfeiffer-Mack reproduction, shaped on a Reeds ‘n Stuff shaping machine.
A brass 47mm staple with synthetic cork.
Blank will be tied at ~72-73mm.
Lightly scraped at the tip to encourage the sides to stay closed.
Each blank is sterilized in 70% isopropyl alcohol before mailing.
